Strathford Park
offers over 15 years experience in breaking horses.
Young horses
generally have not had much work prior to breaking nor
should they have due to potential damage to growing
legs. Our training methods consist of working horses at
a pace that doesn't send your horse home stressed or
under weight. A smooth & quiet break in will always be a
great start to any horses saddle career.
All horses are
mouthed , lunged , tied down , booted , introduced to
traffic and trained around stock before a break in is
complete. We aim to keep all horses worked in as little
training aids as possible. We use simple bits, so there
isn't a list of conditions to ride your horse when you
get them home.

A general guide
is breaking normally takes 4 to 6 weeks.
Horses are
backed in the second week, third week is flat work,
fourth is paddock work.
Some need longer in different
areas , so each is different & cant be predicted until
started on.
The average is five weeks. The best age is
about two and a half years old ( about the beginning of
winter as rising 3yr olds ).
You can then either continue
on with them, or rest them until the new year.

If you are
considering having your horse broken in , have their
teeth checked , and have them in good paddock
condition or better before booking in. |
